2013-2015
To all our returning players, I look forward to again watching (and playing with some of you) through out the year, as we strive for that premiership that we’re all chasing. We have a strong list of players and I look to the continual improvement that hard work brings in each of you and the team success that will follow. I wish to sincerely welcome all new players to the senior ranks as well as those juniors playing under the Spotswood cap for the first time. I hope each one of you enjoys a long and successful career here with Spotswood Cricket Club
The pre-season is over now and finally we can concentrate on the ‘real stuff’. I am sure that each of you will give 100% in order to achieve your own personal goals and the goals of the Club. As we commence the 2013/14 season, I again wish all new and returning club members a successful and enjoyable season and I urge all players, officials, coaches and family members to become involved in Spotswood Cricket Club – your Club – not just on the field but also in attending its various social functions and in contributing in appropriate ways to its overall running and well-being. In that way, both individual and collective success and enjoyment is assured.’
We are a great club and with your help, we will continue to be great club for a long time to come.
Yours Truly,
President John Wheeler.

FROM THE PRESIDENT BILL CLINTON
Good start to the season with the 1st and 2nd XI’s winning convincingly. Very pleasing was the introduction of junior players into senior cricket, there were many players that made their senior debut, with young Declan O’Brien taking 4-17 in the fourth eleven.
English County player, Ed Young made his debut for the club and started well, making 37 and taking a wicket.
The Committee’s big emphasis this year was to target sponsorship as a key area into increasing our fundraising activities,
and I am delighted to announce that Smartline have signed a gold sponsorship package for the next 3 years, with their logo to be worn on our one day playing tops alongside BGO.
The other outstanding announcement is that we are ready to sign a 3 year platinum deal with Real Estate agents Compton and Green. They will have their logo on our senior two day playing tops. These signings have been a great coup for the club and would like to congratulate Nick “Cougar” Bartol and Haydn Fletcher for their outstanding work in getting these sponsors on board.
BGO has again come on board as sponsor and will have front and centre naming rights on our one day playing top
Please support all our sponsors above. If you, family or friends need a new home loan or want to refinance to save $$$ please see Anthony Stone from Smartline. Buying, Selling or Renting? Adrian Butera from Compton Green will look after the Spotswood Cricket Club Family. For all your accounting and business solutions speak to Lindsay Broadway at BGO.
Last week also saw the tragic passing of a former player, Tony Nancarrow. Tony, a great personal friend of my family
for over 40 years, has also been a great supporter of our club over many years. Tony attended working bees such as setting up the turf practise wicket area and helped me on other projects over many years. Tony’s company has attended all 5 Presidents lunches to date and he has attended many functions over the years. Tony was familiar to many players around the club. RIP to my great mate “Carrots”
Yours Truly, President John Wheeler.

1st came off a great outright win and the 2nds were disappointed that Footscray United were too scared to play on a wicket that was good except for a little wet patch. The season now is in full swing as all the lower elevens have completed their 6 one day games and they now step into the 2 day game format.
One of the most pleasing aspects has been the integration of the junior players playing turf cricket and performing very well. To date there has been 11 players from the under 17 and under 15 teams play in the turf teams and the added benefits is that the teams have performed well and won some very good games, with the 4th XI having a tie against Hoppers Crossing last game, which included our team playing 4 under 15 players, a great result. This can only benefit
the club in the future.
Last Sunday saw the 3rd XI play a testimonial game in recognition of the service John Ross has contributed to our club as a player and Committee person, while unable to attend due to the fixturing of the 4th XI as well. I’ve been told it was sensational. We had a team of former great players get together to have fun and record a big win over Werribee Central. Plenty of spectators attended to ensure a memorable day.
Socially we have a big month ahead with Butts’ supporter group function for the Sunday Roast, featuring former AFL player and now Manager Liam Pickering. We need all players to not only support the function but to bring family and friends along from outside the club. If we all brought one person along from outside the club it will fill the house up. Please support this function!
Western Spirit selections have finally concluded and we are proud to announce that Spotswood has 2 representatives Declan O’Brien and Jay Vine in this years tournament to be held between Jan 20th and Feb 2nd (Final) 2014.
Yours Truly, President John Wheeler.

The second eleven jumped to the top of the ladder by winning outright against Doutta in the Sunday games with Leigh Forbes leading the way with 75 and Ryan Warnock and Tom Johnstone going through them with 5 and 4 wickets respectively, while co captain Mick McCarthy chimed in with an 80 to lead the way against Hoppers. The Ladies are sitting 6th on the ladder but believe we can get a spot in the top 4. Its great to see good numbers training and attending club functions, well done girls
This week certainly tested the club with 15 senior players making themselves unavailable due to various commitments. We managed to get 4 full teams with quite a few juniors stepping up into senior grades.
The Under 15B team are 3rd on the ladder with the Under 13 A making up 4th spot, all other junior teams are just outside the four. Congratulation to Jay Vine 100 games and Sullivan Gould on the verge of 100 games first game after the xmas break great effort boys

2 great wins by the 1st eleven, the first with great performances by Ed Young (70), Dicko (50), and well supported by Abhi (33) and “new player” Matt Leddin (30). It was great to see Ledds back in the Spotty colours again. Two 1st gamers Leigh Forbes and Fifteen year old Mac Short made their debut, Mac featuring in a runout and his first scoring shot being a reverse sweep ended up 5 no and Leigh had a good start scoring 18. We beat Westmeadows and it was a great result.
The next win was even better against Royal Park chasing 172, with all our good player out and being 4 for 75 we had a great hard fought win with 2nd gamer Leigh Forbes starring with 80 no to hit the winning runs in the last over. Great result and puts us in the top 4.
The 2nd X1 have had a ordinary start beating West Meadows chasing just 71, got over the line by 20 runs with Pat McFry and Matt Short both taking 3 wickets and Dave Buysen (32) and Scotty Fitzgerald (28) the only bats to get going. Next game a bad loss to Royal Park chasing only 130 with Cougar getting 3 wickets to be rolled out for 112 with Pattie McFly getting (37). @nd’s still sitting 3rd on ladder
3rd X1 travelling very well and sitting well inside the top four with a great outright win over Newport Digman rolling them for 54, Haydn Ferrier taking 5 for 15 and Mick Mac taking 4 wickets including a hat trick. Rambo then smacked them around with 78 well supported by Jason Butterfield (29). We rolled them again for 108 with Big Stewy Stanford taking 4-5 and Chris Beckett 3-25
4th X1 also had a great win against 2nd and last years premiers Taylors lakes. We made 233 with Trevor Stanford (640, Andy Webb(53) and 2 under 15 players Jay Vine(27) and Jack Fitzharris (17) putting on a 51 run partnership. We rolled them for 173 with Trevor Stanford having a great game taking 5-27. It was a great result considering we played 5 junior players that game.
Ladies have only had one game since Christmas against against EMP. Last weekend we had a bye. It’s the final of the 20/20 (top two teams only). We finished third. Currently the Ladies sit fourth on ladder for end of season finals (top 4)
Spotty 2/173 Kareena Jacobsen-Logan 84 no and Captain Teresa Norris (44) led the charges and EMP were 2/71 off their 20/overs with Belinda Orr 2/18
We had 8 players to Represent the Bulldog Cricket Academy to Tasmania to Play in the Under 15 Tasmanian Championships is as follows Vice Captain: Jay Vine and players, Eddie Bryant, Jack Davies, Sullivan Gould, Ben Wardle, Declan O’Brien, Brayden Schibeci, Oliver Scholes. It was a great experience to play on 1st class grounds and turf wickets
All the best to the Junior players representing the competition and Western Spirit in the upcoming tournaments over the school holidays.
Yours Sincerely, President JOHN WHEELER SCC
