Established in 2018, the Westgate Shield is an annual round robin format competition Spotswood Cricket Club runs for local primary schools. Teams of boys and girls from each school compete during the course of the day for the honour of taking ‘home’ one of two perpetual shields for the year ahead. The competition is run on the day by staff from Cricket Victoria.
In the inaugural competition held October 2018, Yarraville West Primary School took out both the girls and boys shields. The other participating schools, Spotswood, St Margaret Mary’s and Wembley, battled hard, and a lot of fun was had by all. Teachers and parents of those involved provided invaluable support and made it a day to remember.
